Cooling systems

Overheating is the fastest way to destroy a marine engine, and it almost never comes out of nowhere — it comes from a tired impeller, a scaled-up heat exchanger, or a blocked intake that had been narrowing for months. The temperature alarm is the last warning, not the first.

What we service

Raw-water pumps and impellers, thermostats, heat exchangers, oil coolers, exhaust risers and manifolds, hoses and clamps, and full cooling system flushes. On closed-cooled engines we test coolant condition; on raw-water engines we check flow at the telltale and temperature at the block, not just the gauge.

Risers and manifolds: the silent one

On sterndrives and inboards, exhaust risers corrode from the inside where you cannot see it — and when they let go, they put water somewhere expensive. In salt water they are a service item on a schedule, not a lifetime part. If yours have never been off and the boat lives in Broward County water, that inspection is overdue by definition.

The impeller rule

A rubber impeller is a wear item with a hard life: it runs dry for a second every cold start and eats sand every time you cross a skinny flat. Replace it on schedule and the cooling system mostly takes care of itself; run it to failure and the vanes end up in your heat exchanger — which is exactly how the expensive version of this story starts.
